Bordlampe - Metal, Glas - Fransk modernist
French Art Deco Table Lamp with Marbled Opaline Glass Shade, circa 1930s-1950s
A striking French Art Deco table lamp with a beautifully shaped opaline glass shade in a vivid green tone, dramatically marbled with darker veining. The shade has a strong sculptural quality, with stepped and faceted contours that give it that unmistakable interwar glamour, while the swirling pattern in the glass adds softness and movement.
In the first picture the lamp is off - when lit, the green becomes more an apple green (with higher voltage bulb inside as it has now)
The metal base is more sober, modernist and streamlined, allowing the shade to take center stage. Together, the combination feels both elegant and slightly bauhaus, a very appealing balance often found in French decorative lighting from the Art Deco period and slightly beyond.
The lamp has been rewired more recently (had 60s wiring) and is ready for use. It appears that a casing or cover around the base may be missing, but the lamp stands firmly and remains stable. There is age-related wear to the metal, consistent with time and use, which suits the character of the piece well.
A decorative and atmospheric lamp, especially suitable to place on sideboard, console table or desk.
Condition
Good vintage condition with wear consistent with age and use. Rewired with newer wiring. Likely missing a casing around the base, though the lamp stands stable and functions well. Wear and oxidation to the metal base as shown.
Uses E27 bulb
