Vikingetiden Guld kuppelformet applikation (Ingen mindstepris)

A delicate gold appliqué from the Viking Era. The piece is circular in shape and domed in profile. The appliqué has been embellished with an outer border of fine granules. To the reverse is a small hoop, which would have been used for attachment. Earthly encrustations, toning, and signs of wear to the surface as consistent with age, such as discolouration, minor chips, scratches, dents, and warping. Please take note of the measurements. Both Viking men and women enjoyed wearing jewellery as an indicator of wealth and social status, wearing these pieces kept their wealth safe and secure. Appliqués of this type, were used in Viking society to decorate garments and were modelled using different techniques. This set of appliqués has been created by hammering the gold sheet from the reverse side, allowing for a mould of beautiful motifs. This technique is known as repoussé. Diameter: (circa) 0.8cm Weight: 0.32g Provenance: Ex Japanese gentleman's (deceased) collection, 1970's - 2010's
