Rav - Fossil matrix - click beetle larva - 27.5 mm - 22 mm
Click beetle larva was sealed in 100 million-year-old amber. The details of compound feeler, feet, and body are well preserved. For example, in Burmese amber, this larva is quite large. The journal Nature scientific reports has published(07 January 2025): ''Click beetle larvae from Cretaceous Burmese amber represents an ancient Gondwanan lineage'': The click beetles (Elateridae) represent the major and well-known group of the polyphagan superfamily Elateroidea. Despite a relatively rich fossil record of Mesozoic Elateridae, only a few species are described from the Upper Cretaceous Burmese amber. Although Elateridae spend most of their lives as larvae, our knowledge on immature stages of this family is limited, which is especially valid for the fossils. So far, only a single larval click beetle has been reported from Burmese amber.
Period: Cretaceous (100 million years old)
