unknown - unknown - Stand - Blødtræ - Indonesisk Naga Ploncon
This is a Naga (snake) Ploncon ( stand) fit to show or display 5 krises (Javanese or even Balinese, see one the pictures, there the krises shown there are purely used for demonstration purpose and are not part of the auction). These Ploncons were made in the '50-'70 and the artisan maker of these is no more. They were special plocons and very well sold at the time because they are in principle packable ( if you remove the pegs shown in the picture from underneath) and you can dismount them and bring them in a suitcase as a flat pack. Dutch soldiers bought them during the independence war in Indonesia to take with them back to the Netherlands, along with the krises which they also bought. Such ploncons are lightweight ( made of local, Indonesian softwood) but very robust. The naga figures are nicely and detailed carved. A ploncon is used to display an honour a number of krises with the function to protect the household. The Nagas figures at the side (snakes) add an extra element of protection to the kris and the house. All krises, even straight , represent a Naga in various positions (and curves, including straight). Unmissable for the serious Kris collector.
