Beskrivelse fra sælger

Author: Maurits Cornelis Escher (1898-1972)
Title: "Himmel og Vand" (1938)
Size: 65 x 55cm
Copyright: The M.C. Escher Company - Baarn - The Netherlands.
Offset print, made on 180g high-quality matt paper. Displays a vivid and sharp image quality.
Just the right size to frame. Impressive effect when framed.
Shipping in a rigid tube via certified express mail.
It is possible to collect more than one object, from the same auction, in the same shipment.

Over the years, “Himmel og Vand” has become one of his most popular and widely reproduced works.
In “Himmel og Vand I”, Escher arranges a progression of forms: at the top, birds flying in the sky; at the bottom, fish swimming in water; and in the middle, a transition zone where birds turn into fish, or vice-versa.
It uses the concept of tessellering or “regelmæssig opdeling af planen” — shapes that interlock without gaps or overlaps, a recurring theme in Escher’s work.
Escher described how, in the central strip, birds and fish are “equivalente til hinanden” — de bytter figur og baggrund afhængigt af, hvordan man ser
