Kutani-ware - 九谷焼-Kutani ware - Vase - Porcelæn - Modig botanisk design

Item Description Japanese Kutani Ware Porcelain Vase in the Yoshidaya Style - Bold Botanical Design with Berries, Signed "Kutani" A beautiful Kutani ware porcelain vase from Ishikawa Prefecture, one of Japan's most celebrated ceramic traditions. This piece is decorated in the "Yoshidaya" style (吉田屋写し), one of the most representative and prestigious styles of Kutani ware. The Yoshidaya palette is distinctive for its use of four colors — green, yellow, purple, and dark blue — with the deliberate absence of red, a hallmark inherited from the "Aote" (blue-green) tradition of Ko-Kutani (Old Kutani). The entire surface of this vase is richly painted in the oil-painting-like manner characteristic of the style, leaving almost no white space. Against a vivid yellow ground decorated with fine stippled patterning, bold leaves are rendered in deep greens and purples, accompanied by clusters of striking blue berries and a large peony-like blossom. The powerful brushwork and dignified composition create a presence that is at once traditional and surprisingly modern. The fine crackle (kannyū) across the glazed surface adds depth and texture to the piece. The base is signed "九谷" (Kutani) in the green overglaze enamel typical of the Aote / Yoshidaya tradition. This vase is believed to date from the 1990s. A versatile and elegant vessel that beautifully showcases seasonal flowers, or stands on its own as a decorative work of art. Size Height: 19.0 cm Body Diameter: 19.0 cm Mouth Outer Diameter: 11.2 cm Mouth Inner Diameter: 9.8 cm Base Diameter: 9.7 cm Weight 1,336 g Condition Used, but in excellent condition. No chips, cracks, or restorations. The only minor flaw is slight soiling on the base (the contact/resting surface). The original box is not included. Artist / Production Profile Kutani Ware (九谷焼) in the Yoshidaya Style - Ishikawa Prefecture Kutani ware is a traditional craft of Ishikawa Prefecture with a history of over 360 years, originating in 1655 in the Kutani village of the Kaga domain. It is one of Japan's greatest porcelain traditions, internationally renowned for its bold, multicolored overglaze decoration. The "Yoshidaya" style was born at a kiln opened by the wealthy Toyoda family (whose shop name was "Yoshidaya") of the Daishōji clan, established to revive the spirit of Old Kutani. Rather than simply imitating the past, the Yoshidaya kiln produced original works of high artistic quality in the Aote tradition. The style is defined by its four-color palette of green, yellow, purple, and dark blue — never red — applied densely across the entire surface in a manner reminiscent of oil painting. Compared to the boldness of Ko-Kutani Aote, the Yoshidaya style is admired for its more refined, elegant, and dignified atmosphere. The signature "九谷" (Kutani) mark on the base places this vase firmly within this distinguished tradition. NOTICE: The photos may show flowers, plants, pedestals, etc. as examples of decorations and interior design for illustrative purposes, but please note that these are not included in the product. The lot will be carefully packaged and sent by DHL, FedEx or Japan Post depending on the situation. It takes about 2-3 weeks to receive normally. Import duties, taxes, and charges are not included in the item price or shipping cost. These charges are the buyer's responsibility. Sometimes Customs or the delivery company in your country may contact you for Customs clearance via phone or email. Please make sure that you can answer the phone. If you don't, the parcel will be returned to us and it costs more than double the shipping fee for reshipping. We do appreciate your kind cooperation.
