Islamic Bronze Signet Ring with Stylized Kufic Inscription – Islamic Culture – 10th to 13th Century AD
A substantial bronze signet ring featuring a broad shield-shaped bezel engraved with a simplified Kufic inscription. The design is composed of angular linear strokes arranged around a central vertical element, creating a highly abstract calligraphic composition typical of medieval Islamic seal rings. Such inscriptions often represented personal names, religious invocations, blessings, or ownership marks rendered in an intentionally geometric style.
The ring is distinguished by its wide, smoothly flowing form and large integral bezel, reflecting the practical and aesthetic preferences of Islamic metalwork during the medieval period. The surface displays an attractive archaeological patina with areas of wear and smoothing resulting from centuries of use. The restrained decoration and bold silhouette make this a representative example of personal jewellery from the medieval Islamic world.
