Batak grinding dish (lupon) from The Batak people of Sumatra, every clan has a datu (ritual specialist / medicine man) who has a variety of containers to hold his magic mixtures and potions, related to the origins of puk-puk, the magic substance contained therein. This ceremonial mortar is used by the datu to grind the ingredients.
Made of wood and the patina is incredible, it reaches a height on the custom made iron stand of ca 30cm. Some slight surface scratches, overall great condition!
