Islamic Signet Ring – Islamic World – 10th to 13th Century AD
A finely cast bronze signet ring featuring an oval bezel engraved with an abstract geometric composition composed of intersecting linear motifs. Rings of this type were widely used throughout the medieval Islamic world as personal seals, administrative tools, and symbols of social standing. The engraved face would originally have been pressed into wax, clay, or other soft materials to authenticate documents, correspondence, or property.
The ring displays a characteristic medieval Islamic form with a broad bezel and tapering shoulders flowing into a rounded hoop. Centuries of use have softened portions of the engraved design, while a dark brown to olive patina covers the surface, enhancing its historical character. The combination of functional craftsmanship and decorative engraving makes this an attractive example of medieval Islamic personal adornment and seal-making tradition.
