A Chinese Doucai/Sancai Yellow-Ground Dragon Saucer, Mark and Period of Daoguang (1821–1850)
A rare Chinese yellow-ground sancai dragon saucer dating to the reign of the Daoguang Emperor (1821–1850). Within the Qing Imperial Court ranking system, this type of yellow-ground dragon ware belonged to the third grade of imperial porcelain.
The exterior is finely decorated with two five-clawed dragons chasing flaming pearls amongst scrolling clouds, one painted in vivid green enamel and the other in rich aubergine enamel. The interior is similarly decorated with a green dragon and an aubergine dragon surrounding five auspicious fruits and lingzhi fungus motifs, symbols of longevity, prosperity and good fortune.
The base bears a six-character underglaze mark reading “Da Qing Daoguang Nian Zhi” (Made during the Daoguang reign of the Great Qing Dynasty).

This is an attractive example of Daoguang-period imperial-style yellow-ground sancai porcelain, displaying the classic combination of green and aubergine enamels that was highly favoured for dragon wares of the Qing dynasty.
