Ægte "naturlige korsformede perler" er typisk naturligt kultiverede ferskvandsperler. Mens østers og muslinger sjældent danner et perfekt kors ved tilfældighed, placerer landmænd bevidst små korsformede forme eller kerner i muslingen. Herefter dækker muslingen korsformen med tykke lag af glinsende nacre over et til tre år.
How Cross-Shaped Pearls Are Made:
The Nucleation Process: Pearl farmers implant a microscopic, cross-shaped organic or mineral nucleus into the mantle tissue of a freshwater mussel.
Nacre Secretion: The mussel treats the mold as an irritant and coats it in nacre (the same pearlescent material found in high-end pearls).
The Result: The final piece is a 100% genuine pearl, featuring an organic, glowing sheen layered perfectly over a cross silhouette.
Types of Cross Pearls:
Cultured Shape: The vast majority of cross-shaped pearls used in modern jewellery are made using the intentional nucleation process.
Baroque "Stick" Crosses: Some rare, naturally formed cross pearls occur when two elongated, cross-shaped "stick" or "biwa" pearls fuse together organically in the mollusk.
True Natural Pearls: A completely un-nucleated natural pearl forming in the exact shape of a cross without human intervention is historically unprecedented and commands massive auction values.

Spiritual Significance: These pearls are highly valued for their Christian and spiritual symbolism, offering a unique, organic alternative to traditional cut-stone or metal crosses.
Value & Rating: Because they are cultured with a specific mold, they are generally more accessible than perfectly spherical pearls, yet they retain the same durability and luster.
