Art Deco Enamel Cigarette Case – Alpacca (Nickel Silver) – c. 1925–1935 An elegant and highly decorative Art Deco cigarette case dating from the golden age of the Art Deco period, circa 1925–1935. The case features a striking geometric composition with deep glossy black enamel panels intersected by contrasting cream and silver-toned diagonal bands, a design language strongly associated with the sophisticated aesthetics of the late 1920s and early 1930s. Its gently curved profile, clean architectural lines and balanced proportions perfectly reflect the modernist influence that defined luxury smoking accessories of the Art Deco era. The exterior includes a central cartouche originally intended for a monogram, left blank and therefore preserving the purity of the original design. The interior is particularly attractive and displays a finely executed engine-turned decoration, commonly known as a fish-scale guilloché pattern, composed of overlapping circular motifs that create a shimmering effect when exposed to light. This type of mechanical guilloché work was widely employed by skilled workshops in France, Germany, Austria and Czechoslovakia during the Art Deco period and was commonly reserved for quality smoking accessories, vanity items and luxury desk objects. Although the case is unmarked, the construction, materials and decorative treatment are consistent with high-quality Continental European production of the interwar years. The body appears to be manufactured in alpacca (nickel silver) or a similar silver-plated white metal alloy, a material extensively used in luxury accessories of the period because of its durability, elegant appearance and resistance to wear. The original cigarette retaining straps remain present inside the case. Condition Good vintage condition. The enamel decoration remains visually attractive and well preserved overall, with light age-related wear and minor surface marks consistent with careful use over the decades. Small enamel losses and signs of age may be present, as expected for an authentic Art Deco object approaching one hundred years of age. The hinge and closure operate correctly.
