History of the Imperial Japanese Army Infantry Regiment No. 38

The 38th Infantry Regiment was a main force of the Imperial Japanese Army during its invasion of China, infamous for the atrocities it committed in the Nanking Massacre. It was successively subordinate to the 16th Division and the 38th Division, and its operations extended across North, East, and South China.

Organization and Code Names
While under the 16th Division, it was code‑named the “Nara Regiment”; when attached to the 38th Division, most of its soldiers were recruited from Shizuoka Prefecture.
