GUB Glashütte - Spezimatic Automatic - Cal. 75 - - Ingen mindstepris - Mænd - 1970-1979

An incredible and exceptionally rare piece of Cold War horological history. This is a vintage GUB Glashütte Spezimatic automatic men's watch, manufactured in the German Democratic Republic (GDR) and presented in 1977 as an official award for heroism in communist Czechoslovakia. The "Jumbo" UFO Case Factor (Highly Collectible): Unlike the vast majority of vintage watches from this era which measure 34-36mm, this specific model features a massive "Jumbo" UFO / Cushion case measuring 42.2 mm WITHOUT the crown. This oversized format is extremely rare for GUB Glashütte production from the 1970s, making it highly sought-after by modern collectors due to its impressive and contemporary wrist presence. Historical Background & Provenance: The stainless steel case back features a rare, historically significant engraving: "ZA HRDINSTVÍ 1977 - OSP Třebíč" (Translated from Czech: "FOR HEROISM 1977 - District Construction Enterprise of Třebíč"). This watch was officially awarded to an employee for an act of workplace heroism or exceptional achievement in the town of Třebíč (now Czech Republic) in 1977. Technical Specifications: Brand: GUB Glashütte Model: Spezimatic Automatic with Date Movement: Historic Automatic Caliber 75 (marked '75' on the movement bridge), 26 Jewels, Made in GDR. Case Diameter: Jumbo size - 42.2 mm (measured excluding the crown). Case Material: Gold-plated (Goldplaque) body with a Stainless Steel screw-down back case. Dial: Original deep black/dark chocolate dial with gold-tone applied hour markers and hands. Quick-set date window at 3 o'clock. Strap: Fitted with a brand new aftermarket black eco-leather strap. Condition Report: Movement: The watch is in working condition. It winds up and ticks properly, holding time well for a vintage piece (service history unknown). Dial & Hands: Beautiful original dial with minimal age-related patina. Glass: The original acrylic crystal has a visible crack between the 4 and 6 o'clock positions (clearly shown in the photos). It can easily be replaced by a watchmaker, but it has been kept original to preserve the watch's authentic history. Case: Shows some authentic wear and loss of gold plating on the sharp edges and crown, consistent with a watch that was proudly worn by its original owner. The movement mainplate features the original factory stamped production code "761" (clearly visible in the detailed macro photos). In GUB Glashütte horological records, this code represents a precise date stamp: the first two digits "76" signify the production year of the movement (1976), while the final digit "1" denotes the 1st quarter of that year (January–March). This perfectly matches the historical timeline of the watch, as the movement was manufactured in early 1976 and subsequently cased, engraved, and officially presented as an award in 1977 (as dated on the case back). This is absolute proof of a 100% all-original, matching-numbers time capsule – highly prized by serious vintage watch collectors! Please study the high-resolution photographs carefully, as they form an integral part of the description. An incredibly rare, oversized piece for serious collectors of Glashütte or Eastern Bloc memorabilia! Shipping: Fast and secured shipping with tracking number.
