His body is surrendered completely, trusting, weightless in the way only a body that has stopped resisting can be. He holds on not because he is afraid of falling but because he wants to be close. Behind them the boulevard recedes into the morning mist, Haussmann facades rising on either side like silent witnesses. A church spire disappears into the haze.
