The vase is made from natural bamboo, using the cylindrical form of the material to create a simple yet refined standing flower vessel. The front features darker lacquered bamboo sections, with a cricket and fine grass-like details rendered in maki-e. Maki-e is a traditional Japanese decorative technique where gold or silver powder is sprinkled onto wet lacquer to produce intricate designs. The contrast between the warm natural bamboo surface and the darker lacquered area gives the piece a quiet seasonal atmosphere. The upper section has an elegant arched handle, also formed in bamboo, giving the vase a traditional Japanese appearance suitable for chabana, ikebana or display. Inside is an iron liner, allowing the vase to be used for fresh flowers despite age-related wear to the bamboo base. There are age-related scratches, rubbing, small blemishes, minor lacquer chips and general signs of use. The bamboo base has cracks and some chipping, but the vase remains usable because of the iron liner. The iron liner has rust and wear from age and use.
