Vacheron Constantin - Patrimony - 6099 - Mænd - 1950-1959
Some watches are purchased by customers as a commemoration in celebration for a life milestone. Others are commissioned by the very Maison themselves to celebrate. In 1955, Vacheron & Constantin was busy celebrating there already 200 years of operation. The fatted calf? The reference 6099. Unveiled to the world, it was the first watch to come completely equipped with the brand new ultrathin caliber 1003 - a movement still in production today. In fact, the summit of watchmaking has been using the caliber for so long that it has been affordable the opportunity to reinterpret its original creations. In 2010, Vacheron & Constantin launched the Historiques Ultra-fine 1955. At just 4.10mm it was at the time the worlds thinnest watch. Its true, other manually wound calibers are thinner but none so reliable
The case manufacturer for the 6099 was Eggly & Cie who were produced cases from the mid thirties to approximately the end of the 20th century. They manufactured high-end cases for the likes of Patek Phillipe, Vacheron & Constantin and Audemars Piguet. They specialized in eccentric styles and designs included the Calatrava 2407 dubbed "Sea Turtle." They were also noted for going on to produce Vacherons famed corne de vaches.
