Artist Background
Gashu Fukami (1953–2023) was a talented Japanese woodblock artist born in Hitoyoshi City, Kumamoto Prefecture.
Graduating from Doshisha University, he was deeply inspired by the prominent printmakers Umetaro Azechi and Takeji Asano, which led him to begin creating his own woodblock prints.
Best known for his heartwarming zodiac animal series, his distinctive and comforting style gained widespread acclaim.
He held numerous solo exhibitions across regions and dedicated himself to teaching printmaking classes throughout his career.
