Kommodeskuffe - Japansk Keyaki (Zelkova-træ) - Japan

Vintage Japanese Keyaki (Zelkova Wood) Cha-Tansu (Tea Cabinet / Display Cupboard) - Traditional Chigaidana Shelving - Showa Period Description A masterfully crafted Japanese Cha-Tansu (traditional tea cabinet / display shelf) dating from the mid-20th century (Showa period). This piece is constructed using high-quality Keyaki (Japanese Zelkova) wood, highly celebrated for its dynamic, undulating grain patterns (moku), which are beautifully highlighted by a warm, honey-toned natural lacquer finish. The upper section features smooth-sliding glass doors enclosing an asymmetrical arrangement of shelves known as Chigaidana (staggered shelves), a classic feature of Japanese architectural aesthetics. It includes a specialized deep tray/compartment, built-in mini-drawers, and small sliding doors designed originally for storing tea utensils, ceramics, or incense. The lower half offers ample functional storage with four sliding panels and three wider drawers at the base, all fitted with elegant, patinated iron handles. With its clean structural lines and rich organic texture, this cabinet transitions seamlessly from a traditional Japanese artifact into a sophisticated mid-century modern sideboard or display showcase for contemporary Western interiors. Material: Keyaki (Japanese Zelkova) veneer and solid accents, internal softwood structure, glass, and iron hardware. Technique: Traditional Japanese cabinetry, clear lacquer finish to accentuate the natural wood grain. Condition: Good vintage condition. Light surface abrasions, minor scuffs along the edges, and faint rings on the top surface from previous use, all consistent with age. The glass is intact without cracks, and all sliding components move smoothly.
