Relique hoved - Kota - Gabon (Ingen mindstepris)

This is a decorative kota of the Bakota tribe. These reliquaries played an important role in rituals surrounding their ancestors.

The worship of the ancestors is at the heart of Kota's religious and social life. Upon death, parts of the body are decorated and rubbed with magical powders and stored in a basket. On top of the hive is a guardian statue like this.
