Beskrivelse fra sælger

Welcome to the ONE-SELLER-AUCTION by Ecki Heuser, 5Uhr30.com (Cologne, Germany) on Catawiki - this time presenting a BEST-OF „GERMAN PHOTOBOOKS“.

GREAT OPPORTUNITY to purchase this EXCELLENT BOOK by German photographer Götz Diergarten - in BRANDNEW CONDITION.

Götz Diergarten, born 1972, studied photography at the "Kunstakademie Düsseldorf" from 1993 to 1998, where he developed his rigorous, typological approach under the tutelage of Bernd and Hilla Becher.

Bernd Becher took on a professorship for photography at the Düsseldorf Art Academy in 1976, but the couple saw themselves as teachers and co-operated closely in the training of students. They trained many photographic personalities who, as the "Becher School", have since become outstanding representatives of German photography from an international perspective. These include Andreas Gursky, Thomas Struth, Candida Höfer, Thomas Ruff, Jörg Sasse, Axel Hütte, Elger Esser, Götz Diergarten, Petra Wunderlich and Tata Ronkholz.

New, mint, unread; still originally shrink-wrapped in publisher's plastic foil.
COLLECTOR'S CONDITION.

Like always 5Uhr30.com guarantees detailed and accurate descriptions, 100% transport protection, 100% transport insurance and of course combined shipping - worldwide.

Diergarten documents vernacular architecture throughout Europe: storefront façades, beach cabanas, spas and metro stations in Germany, France, England and Belgium. His keen sense of color and texture add a dimension of play and whimsy to an otherwise austere conception, recalling the deadpan beauty of such American photographers as William Eggleston and Stephen Shore. In his Metropolis series, for example, Diergarten transforms the materials and patterns of passageways, tunnels and railway platforms into abstract color fields. In the absence of the human form, commonplace details like a door, window or street sign take on expressive personality - a testament to the artist's heightened sense of perception and his ability to illuminate the everyday.

Hatje Cantz, Ostfildern. 2010. First edition, first printing.

Hardback (as issued). 246 x 276 mm. 160 pages. 98 colour photos. Photos: Götz Diergarten. Text: Carsten Ahrens, Matthias Harder, Petra Helck. Interview with the artist: Rudolf Kicken and Sven Beckstette. Layout: Götz Diergarten, Verena Gerlach. Text in English and German.

Great German photobook - in perfect condition.

The Bechers - maker of "Anonyme Skulpturen" (Martin Parr, The Photobook vol 2, page 266).
The Bechers - famous for the "Becher-Class" or "Becher-School".
The Bechers - teacher of Andreas Gursky, Thomas Struth , Candida Höfer, Thomas Struth and others.

The Düsseldorf School of Photography refers to a group of photographers who studied at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf in the mid 1970s under the influential photographers Bernd and Hilla Becher.
Known for their rigorous devotion to the 1920s German tradition of Neue Sachlichkeit (New Objectivity), the Bechers’ photographs were clear, black and white pictures of industrial archetypes (pitheads, water towers, coal bunkers).
Andreas Gursky, Candida Höfer, Axel Hütte, Thomas Ruff and Thomas Struth modified the approach of their teachers by applying new technical possibilities and a personal and contemporary vision, while retaining the documentary method their tutors propounded.
