Scarce early twentieth century souvenir album of attractive illustrations, providing visual documentation of places in Palestine, and offering a fascinating insight into life in Palestine and Jerusalem prior to the outbreak of the First World War, and demise of the Ottoman Empire. It features 24 sepia-toned photogravure plates, with captions in several languages, including Arabic, and English. Beautiful views of Jerusalem from the Mount Olives (القدس من جبل الزيتون), Jaffa Gate (يافا), the Church of Saint Mary, the Al-Aqsa Mosque (المسجد الاقصى), the Damascus Gate (دمشق), etc. Published by N. De Simini, Jerusalem, (c. 1910 - 1920). Publishers’ original dark brown wraps with gilt lettering on upper cover. External covers are slightly faded, and with minor wear to edges and corners, and with some tears to the spine cloth. Internally; in good condition. No names or inscriptions. Most likely this book issued with tissue guards covering the plates, of which there are now none, resulting in some markings to some images. Pages are clean and slightly browned with age.
