Vase - Bronze - Japan - Takaoka Bronze Gold Leaf (Ingen mindstepris)

Item Description This is a cast-bronze flower vase of Takaoka copperware (Takaoka dōki), the celebrated metalwork tradition of Takaoka in Toyama Prefecture. The form is a full, rounded, slightly flattened body rising to a short narrow neck and a small mouth, on a neat recessed foot. The surface is finished with a soft green verdigris (rokushō) patina, mottled with delicate tones of turquoise, pink, and ochre, and accented with passages of gold leaf. This green-and-gold treatment is a deliberate artistic patination, evoking the beauty of ancient excavated bronze, and is the very heart of the Takaoka aesthetic, often described as "the craft of appreciating patina." The interplay of quiet green and warm gold gives the piece a serene, timeless presence, well suited to a single seasonal flower or to display on its own. It comes with its original signed wood box (tomobako). Note: Concerning Photo No.2&3 (Real sample Photos , not AI ) "Images displaying this artwork inside a room setting are sample staged to show interior context. Please refer to the written dimensions and direct standalone photos for the definitive size, color, and physical condition of the piece." Size Height 14.2 cm × Body diameter 12.0 cm × Mouth outer diameter 2.2 cm Weight 440 g Condition In used but good condition, structurally sound and stable. The green verdigris and gold-leaf surface is the intended artistic finish of the piece, not corrosion or damage. There is minor wear and light rubbing to the gold leaf at some raised areas, consistent with use and handling. There are no cracks and no significant damage; the piece stands and displays well. The accompanying tomobako shows light age to the wood. Maker / Background Takaoka copperware (高岡銅器 Takaoka dōki), Toyama Prefecture. Takaoka copperware dates back to the early Edo period, over four hundred years ago, and in 1975 became the first copperware to be designated a National Traditional Craft of Japan. Takaoka accounts for roughly 95% of all copperware produced in Japan, and is the country's foremost centre for art bronze, producing everything from temple bells and large bronze statues to fine flower vases, incense burners, and tea utensils. Its defining techniques are casting, engraving (chōkin), inlay (zōgan), and above all a distinctive colouring (chakushoku) process, in which artisans draw out rich, unique surface tones from the metal itself. This vase bears the maker's inscription on the accompanying wood box; however, the signature is not clearly legible, and the specific artist has not been identified. NOTICE The photos may show flowers, plants, pedestals, and similar items as examples of decoration and interior styling for illustrative purposes. Please note that these are not included in the sale; only the item described above is included. The lot will be carefully packaged and sent by DHL, FedEx, or Japan Post depending on the situation. Please note that we may use recycled cardboard boxes for outer packaging. Delivery normally takes about 2–3 weeks after dispatch. Import duties, taxes, and customs charges are not included in the item price or shipping cost. These charges are the buyer's responsibility. Please note that as of 1 July 2026, the EU has abolished the de minimis customs exemption. All shipments to EU countries are now subject to import duties and VAT regardless of the declared value of the goods. For shipments with a declared value under €150, an additional customs processing fee (from around €3) may also apply, and further minor charges may be added depending on the destination country. Sometimes customs or the delivery company in your country may contact you for customs clearance by phone or email. Please make sure that you are reachable and able to respond promptly. If you do not respond, the parcel may be returned to us, and reshipping then costs more than double the original shipping fee. We do appreciate your kind cooperation.
