This substantial wall-mounted post box is a highly decorative and distinctive piece, featuring an imposing arched top, richly raised foliate ornamentation, elaborate moulded borders and prominent gilt-coloured “POST” lettering. The façade has a strong architectural character, combining practical function with an unusually elaborate decorative design inspired by historic Victorian post boxes. The construction consists of a metal inner body with a substantial, hard and stone-like decorative outer surface. The exterior is extensively moulded and decorated in high relief, with scrolling foliage, ornamental borders, corner details and a central heraldic-style decorative motif. The exact composition of the outer decorative material cannot be confirmed with certainty from visual inspection alone and is therefore described conservatively. The box is fully functional as a post box and features a lockable front door, supplied with two keys. The interior is finished in dark brown and provides ample space for receiving mail. The piece has acquired an attractive aged appearance, with visible wear, scratches, surface marks, paint or finish loss and areas where the underlying surface is exposed.
