Tutima Glashütte Fliegerchronograph - Luftwaffe Pilot’s Flyback Chronograph – UROFA Cal. 59 - Mænd - 1944

WWII Tutima Glashütte Luftwaffe Pilot’s Flyback Chronograph – UROFA Cal. 59 – Matching No. 212907 – Circa 1944 An important and highly collectible Tutima Glashütte military pilot’s chronograph, produced during the Second World War for use by the German Luftwaffe. This model is one of the best-known German aviation chronographs of the WWII period and is powered by the legendary UROFA calibre 59, manufactured in Glashütte, Saxony. Based on the matching movement and case number 212907, as well as the later nickel-finished version of the UROFA 59 movement, this example can be dated to approximately 1944. Movement: UROFA calibre 59 Movement number: 212907 Case number: 212907 Mechanical manual-winding chronograph Column-wheel chronograph construction 30-minute chronograph counter Flyback function Later nickel-finished movement version The movement is in very good working order. The watch runs properly and the chronograph functions correctly, including starting, stopping, resetting and the flyback function. The matching number 212907 appears both on the movement and on the case back, which is an important detail for a military collector’s watch of this type. The watch retains its original matte black military dial, which has never been restored or repainted. The dial shows attractive and completely natural signs of age, preserving the authentic character expected from a genuine WWII military chronograph. It features Arabic hour numerals, luminous hour markers, two recessed subsidiary registers, small seconds at 9 o’clock, a 30-minute chronograph counter at 3 o’clock, a central chronograph seconds hand and the Tutima “T” emblem with GLASHÜTTE signature. The original dial is one of the most important features of this particular example. The characteristic pilot’s case features a large bidirectional rotating fluted bezel, designed to be operated easily while wearing flying gloves. The case was re-chromed at some point in the past. This is disclosed for complete transparency and should not be confused with an untouched original chrome finish. The screwed case back is stainless steel. The inside of the case back is correctly stamped: WASSERGESCHÜTZT BODEN EDELSTAHL UHRENFABRIK AG GLASHÜTTE (Sa.) These markings indicate a water-protected case, stainless-steel back and manufacture by Uhrenfabrik AG in Glashütte, Saxony. The external case back is stamped with the matching serial number 212907. The watch is fitted with an acrylic crystal, appropriate for this type of vintage military watch. Steel luminous hands are fitted in the characteristic military pilot-watch design. The watch is fitted with a new textile military-style strap. The strap is a modern replacement and is not WWII-period original. Dimensions: Diameter without crown: 39 mm Diameter including crown: 44 mm Lug-to-lug: 46 mm Thickness: 14 mm Lug width: 20 mm Strap length including watch: approximately 22.5 cm The Tutima Fliegerchronograph with UROFA calibre 59 was manufactured in Glashütte during the Second World War and is historically associated with German military aviation and Luftwaffe pilots. This example is especially appealing due to its matching movement and case numbers, legendary UROFA calibre 59, original unrestored black dial, fully functioning chronograph and flyback mechanism, original WWII-period Glashütte case-back markings and characteristic rotating pilot’s bezel. A fascinating and highly collectible example of one of the most iconic German military pilot chronographs of the Second World War. Tracked and insured shipping 50 EUR
