Gobelin - 143 cm - 87 cm - Japan Room Divider NOREN

Authentic Japanese Noren (Door Curtain/Tapestry) - Hand-painted "Rabbit & Moon" Motif on Indigo-dyed Linen, Artisanal Japanese Craftsmanship A beautiful example of traditional Japanese textile art. This Noren (fabric door divider) features a hand-painted "Rabbit and Moon" motif—a poetic and much-loved theme in Japanese art, evoking the classic image of a rabbit gazing up at the night sky. Dyed in deep indigo blue that fades gently into a natural cream at the top, this piece captures the quiet, contemplative beauty of traditional Japanese aesthetics. Material: Linen (Asa). The coarse, open weave is characteristic of hand-loomed Japanese textiles, allowing light to pass through softly. Design: A gentle gradient from natural cream to deep indigo blue, with a hand-painted crescent moon and a rabbit rendered in loose, ink-wash style brushstrokes—reminiscent of traditional sumi-e painting. A small artist's seal/signature is visible near the motif. Size: Approximately 143 cm x 87 cm. Origin: Made in Japan. Condition: Unused, stored condition. No notable soiling or damage observed, though some natural changes due to age/storage may be present. Please refer to the photos for details. The Story The image of a rabbit beneath the moon is deeply rooted in Japanese folklore, most famously in the legend of the "moon rabbit" said to be seen in the shadows of the full moon. This motif has long been favored in Japanese art and design for its gentle, evocative quality. Hand-painted with loose, expressive brushwork onto indigo-dyed linen, this piece reflects the quiet, unhurried spirit of traditional Japanese craftsmanship. Why it's special Hand-painted Design: The rabbit and moon motif is individually brush-painted, giving each piece subtle character and variation. Versatility: While traditionally hung as a door or doorway curtain (Noren), its artistic composition also makes it well-suited as a wall hanging or decorative panel in modern interiors. Unused Condition: Purchased but never used—an excellent opportunity to acquire a well-preserved piece. Shipping: Carefully packed and shipped via DHL or EMS with tracking and insurance. Customs & VAT: Please note that Value Added Tax (VAT), import duties, and customs fees are the buyer's responsibility and may be collected by your local customs office upon delivery. Please note that as of 1 July 2026, the EU has abolished the de minimis customs exemption. All shipments to EU countries are now subject to import duties and VAT regardless of the declared value of the goods. For shipments with a declared value under €150, an additional customs processing fee of €3 may also apply.
