Zenkyoto Imagination Toshiaki Kanayama Gendai Shorin/1984/Japanese/258*185*10 The collection “Zengyōtō Imagination” by Japanese photographer Toshiaki Kanayama. Toshiaki Kanayama, a leading photojournalist representing postwar Japan. Born in Tokyo in 1944, he dropped out of Nihon University's College of Art, Department of Photography. From the late 1960s, he continuously photographed the anti-war movement, publishing in weekly and monthly magazines. In 1970, he released the internationally acclaimed masterpiece of 'protest photography' He published the work “Raging Waves - An Era of Turmoil,” documenting the anti-war struggles from 1967 to 1970. He then shifted his focus to Okinawa, depicting the realities of Okinawa around the time of its reversion to Japan. He held a solo exhibition at the Nikon Salon in 1972 and published the photo book “Okinawa Prefecture, Japan” in 1975. This book, published in 1984, is a unique collection introducing the series of “All-Japan Student Struggle Council” events from the late 1960s, interspersed with text and composed entirely of Kanayama's photographic plates. Structured into chapters titled “Blood,” “Fortress,” “Flame,” and “Earth,” it examines the series of joint struggles, including the “University of Tokyo/Nihon University Struggle” and “Sanrizuka.” A valuable record collection by a journalist known to connoisseurs, supported by figures like Shomei Tōmatsu and Michio Mitome.
