The Doobie Brothers er et amerikansk rockband, dannet i San Jose, Californien, i 1970. Johnston leverede hovedvokalen fra 1970 til 1975, hvor de havde en mainstream rock-lyd med elementer af folk, country og R&B. McDonald tiltrådte i bandet i 1975 som keyboardist og yderligere lead-vokalist, for at give Johnston noget lindring, der havde helbredsproblemer på det tidspunkt.
