Item Description This is a hana-ire (flower vase) crafted in the Hida Shunkei tradition, a designated traditional lacquerware craft originating from the Hida region of Gifu Prefecture, Japan. Hida Shunkei ware is distinguished by its transparent amber-toned lacquer, applied over wood so that the natural grain remains visible beneath the glossy finish, giving each piece a warm, glowing depth of colour. The vase has an hourglass-inspired silhouette with a tapered square body that narrows at the centre before flaring again toward the rim, resting on a rectangular lacquered base plate. A round metal (copper) fitting is set into the mouth of the vase to hold water and stems securely. The overall design is simple and refined, blending traditional Japanese sensibility with clean lines that would also suit a more contemporary, Western-style interior. The piece comes with its original wooden storage box, which bears the maker's paper label.
