Deathless Deer - 16 Avis sider og striber - 1942/1943

Rare surviving episodes from Sunday Comics sections, featuring episodes of Deathless Deer by Neysa McMein on one each single full page. 16 pages from 1942-1943. Only some images are selected. No comics on the back. Includes the announcement of the comic on the first page. Deer, who started out as a haughty and tyrannical princess in ancient Egypt, got to be deathless within four days of the strip’s November 9, 1942 beginning. Her people, fed up with her high and mighty ways and unimpressed with her great beauty, assassinated her. But she was saved by a fellow member of the power structure, a priest who slipped her an immortality potion just in time. Neysa McMein, whose original name was Marjorie which she changed to Neysa at the advice of a numerologist, was a popular illustrator and portrait artist in the beginning of the 20th century. She was the artist on every cover of McCall's magazine between 1923 and 1938, and also provided covers for the Saturday Evening Post. In 1942 she came up with a comic strip, 'Deathless Deer', written by Alicia Patterson. In her personal life, Neysa McMein was a very unconventional and avant-garde woman, involving herself with pro-suffrage demonstrations in the 1910s and the illustrious group of writers and artists called the Algonquin Round Table. The pages are in very good condition, wrinkles, tears, flaking and missing pieces occur. Will be shipped with track&trace. The lots in this auction can be shipped combined. This is taken into account up to a weight of 5 kg. If packages need to be split due to weight, an additional charge will apply. In this case, we will contact you. #specialcollectionservice
