Vintage Rolex Shock-Resisting – 18K Gold – Original Champagne Dial – Fancy Lugs – Manual Wind A beautiful and highly distinctive vintage Rolex dress watch, dating from the mid-20th century and featuring an elegant 18K gold case with sculpted “fancy” lugs, a configuration strongly associated with Rolex dress watches of the 1940s and early 1950s. The watch is fitted with a beautiful original champagne-coloured dial, preserved with attractive natural vintage character. The dial features applied gold hour markers, the Rolex coronet and signature, together with the characteristic “Shock-Resisting” inscription above the subsidiary seconds register at 6 o’clock. The combination of the warm champagne dial, gold hands, applied markers and unusual decorative lugs gives the watch a particularly elegant and refined appearance. The case is made of 18K gold, marked 0.750, and is fitted with very distinctive sculpted lugs. The inside of the case back is unsigned by Rolex. During this period, Rolex watches were sometimes supplied to individual export markets with cases manufactured or finished by external or local case makers. Similar arrangements are known particularly from European export markets, including France, Portugal and Spain. The manual-winding movement is signed Rolex and presents the traditional construction typical of the brand’s dress watches from this era. Condition The watch is in very attractive vintage condition. The champagne dial is original and displays natural age-related patina consistent with its age. The applied hour markers and hands retain a warm gold tone and complement the case beautifully. The 18K gold case remains very elegant, with the unusual sculpted lugs being one of the strongest visual features of the watch. The watch is fitted with a leather strap and gold plated aftermarket buckle.
