Title: Japanese Kakejiku (掛軸), Unryū-zu (雲龍図) by Suikō (翠紅), Paper Scroll with Original Tomobako Medium: Colour painting on paper Artist: Suikō (翠紅) Overall scroll size: approx. H 139 × W 40 cm (H 54.7 × W 15.7 in) Painting size: approx. H 64 × W 28 cm (H 25.2 × W 11.0 in) Material: Painting paper, silk brocade Tomobako (共箱) dimensions: H 7.5 × W 50 × D 7.5 cm (H 3.0 × W 19.7 × D 3.0 in) Period: Late Showa era (approx. 1960–1970) This is a Japanese kakejiku (掛軸), a hand-painted paper hanging scroll, Unryū-zu (雲龍図) painted by Suikō (翠紅) in the late Showa period. It depicts a white dragon soaring among clouds and waves. The dragon is outlined in fine linework accented with gilded pigment, chasing a glowing orb. This classic auspicious Japanese artwork symbolises good fortune and blessings. The white dragon winds through billowing clouds and surging waves. The deep dark background creates a strong contrast with the dragon and delicate gilded details. It is signed “Suikō (翠紅)” in the lower-left of the painting, with a square red artist’s seal below the signature. Executed in traditional colour painting on paper, the gilded lines are refined and vivid. Original Japanese mounting with silk brocade, fitted with white resin roller knobs. Supplied with a paulownia Tomobako. Due to age, the paper has natural toning over time. There are no tears or repairs on the painted area. The paulownia Tomobako shows signs of age and dust accumulation. Overall good condition relative to its period.
