Vintage Collectible PENGUIN AMORE Lighter (1950s–1960s) – Mother-of-Pearl and Abalone Mosaic – Rare Japanese Piece
For sale is a superb collectible: a mechanical pocket lighter by Penguin Amore, crafted in Japan during the mid-20th century (the Mid-Century Modern era).
The model features a distinctive, ergonomic shape—resembling a teardrop or a smooth river stone—and represents an exceptionally rare, luxury version of this design, distinguished by its premium finishes.
Unique aesthetic: Hand-decorated with an impeccable mosaic of natural white Mother-of-Pearl inlays, accented by iridescent Abalone shell inserts.
Authenticity markings: The original inscription—"SUPER QUALITY, PAT. NO. 431506 432829"—is stamped on the inner edge of the lid, referencing vintage Japanese manufacturing patents. The "Penguin Amore" brand name is also engraved on the casing.
Material: Sturdy chrome-plated metal body, with internal mechanical components made of brass.
Mechanical functionality: The semi-automatic, flip-top opening mechanism functions perfectly, with a firm and precise action.
Ignition system: The serrated flint wheel is in excellent condition and produces a strong spark with every strike.
Fuel: Currently empty (shipped without fuel for transport safety). To light it, you simply need to add standard lighter fluid and a new wick if you intend to use it daily.
