Andrew Lang is best known for these collections of fairy tales, and was an avid collector of folk and fairy tales. He was a Scottish poet, novelist, and literary critic.

'The Green Fairy Book' is the third book in Lang's series, originally he intended it to be the last book in the series before further expanding to twelve volumes. This green volume contains stories from Spanish and Chinese traditions, including 'The Enchanted Watch', 'The Three Little Pigs', 'The Golden Mermaid', 'The Story of the Three Bears', 'The Magic Swan', and more.

Illustrated with a tissue-guarded frontispiece, twelve plates, and in-text engravings, by Henry Justice Ford, a noted English illustrator who is best known for his beautiful illustrations for Lang's works. Published by Longmans, Green & Co., London, 1893. Publishers’ original green cloth, titles to spine, gilt-stamped illustration to front cover. Gilt to all fore-edges.

Book Dimensions: 19 x 13 cm and Number of Pages: 366 + 2 pages of adverts to the rear. 

Condition
Firm and well-bound copy. External covers in nice shape, with light wear to corners and minor rubbing to head and foot of spine. Internally; in good condition. Old inscriptions dated Xmas 1894 and new inscription dated 1983 on first blank front free endpaper page. Pages are clean, with light foxing on the margin of some pages throughout. All plates are present and in nice condition (Please see pictures).

“Andrew Lang's Fairy Books are a series of twenty-five collections of true and fictional stories for children, published between 1889 and 1913. The best known books of the series are the twelve collections of fairy tales, known as Andrew Lang's "Coloured" Fairy Books or Andrew Lang's Fairy Books of Many Colors. The twelve Coloured Fairy Books were illustrated by H. J. Ford (Henry Justice Ford), the first two volumes shared with G. P. Jacomb-Hood and Lancelot Speed respectively, the sequels alone. Several other volumes were illustrated by Ford. A. Wallis Mills also contributed some illustrations”.
