Argentina Federal Republic 1867 5 Pesos (Bolivianos) Paper Choice About Unc 58 Pick S1776r

Historical Context
The 1867 5 Pesos (Bolivianos) note was issued by the Argentina Federal Republic during a period of significant political and economic transformation. Following the dissolution of the Argentine Confederation and the establishment of a unified republic, this currency reflects the nation's efforts to stabilize its economy and assert federal authority. The use of "Bolivianos" in the denomination acknowledges the historical influence of the Bolivian currency system, a remnant of regional monetary agreements. This note circulated during the presidency of Bartolomé Mitre, a key figure in Argentina's modernization, and symbolizes the country's transition toward a centralized banking system and national identity.

Collectibility Value €
This note holds considerable numismatic value due to its age, rarity, and condition. Graded as "Choice About Unc 58" by Pick (reference S1776r), it exhibits minimal handling, with sharp details, original paper quality, and no significant defects—only slight traces of circulation. In the European market, such a note typically commands a value between €800 and €1,200, depending on buyer demand and auction dynamics. Its appeal lies in its historical significance, scarcity in high grades, and status as a pre-decimalization issue, attracting both Argentine and international collectors.

Authentication Tips

Paper and Printing: Authentic notes feature crisp, detailed intaglio printing with raised ink texture. The paper should have a distinct feel and may show slight aging (toning) but no artificial whitening or modern gloss.
Watermark and Security Features: Check for a subtle watermark (often a national emblem or pattern) when held to light. Early Argentine notes rarely had complex security threads, but the printing should align perfectly without blurring.
Catalog Reference: Verify against Pick catalog number S1776r for design elements, including correct typography, serial number font, and signatures. Counterfeits may exhibit errors in spelling or mismatched colors. For certainty, consult a professional grading service (e.g., PCGS Banknote, PMG).
