Working on wet, unprimed canvas, the artist applied ink and let water do most of the work. The circular forms you see weren’t drawn or carved, they emerged naturally as ink spread across the damp surface, pooling and dispersing according to physics rather than artistic intention. “Reverie” demanded surrender. VANTA set up conditions favorable to interesting results, then stepped back and let water carry the ink where it wanted to go. The unprimed canvas absorbed water and ink unevenly, creating soft edges and natural gradations impossible to achieve through direct application.
