Very attractive antique handmade wool Turkmen Saryk rug possibly circa 1880 measuring 200 x 140 cm ( 6.4 x 4.4 ft ). The pattern consists of a repeating theme of motifs known as “guls however different to the Tekke Turkmen rugs since latter have connected motifs whereas Saryk tribes have more of freestanding motifs. Saryk rugs also have distinctive weave with warp threads are on two levels which creates a ribbed back. Dark red / Burgundy vegetable syed colours with the peach Guls also some of the beautiful features. Rug is generally in good condition with all over low pile both ends secured and has been light washed.
