This is one of the most important of the issues of Transition in that it contains an original piece of artwork by Marcel Duchamp on the cover

- Transition Forty-Nine January No 5 . 1949. Features a Henri Matisse Cover and Plates by Matisse, Manet, Eluard, Picasso, Delacroix, etc.
