Jeroen Koetsier has always had a passion for collecting, starting with postage stamps, coins and beer glasses. But it wasn’t until he encountered his true passion—whisky—that his collecting took a new turn. It all began when he gifted his brother an Ardbeg Single Malt Whisky from his birth year, 1974 in the 1990s. Reluctant to part with the bottle, Jeroen returned to the liquor shop the next day to buy one from his own vintage. Within days, six more bottles followed, and soon a new collection was born. These days the focus of the collection is on Whisky books and Port Ellen miniatures. Jeroen quickly realized that whisky was more than just a passion—it could also be a profitable hobby. His hobby soon evolved into a profession, as he began trading bottles and bottling casks of a.o. Hanyu and Karuizawa. With his extensive knowledge, Catawiki welcomed him as their whisky expert in 2015. In addition to his passion for rare, old and tasty bottles, Jeroen represents Catawiki as Wine & Spirits Ambassador. In this role, he continues to shape and elevate the Spirits category by curating expert-level auctions and fostering strong relationships with collectors, sellers and connoisseurs alike. There is a fair chance you will meet Jeroen behind one of our Catawiki booths when visiting Whisky & Spirits Festivals across Europe and Asia.
