Philippe Gérard’s comic book collection started with the collection of his grandfather and of his father: he already had in his possession very rare albums in black and white when he was a teenager, without being fully aware yet of their high value. The albums of Tintin are his Proust’s ‘madeleine moment’. While working as an educator, Philippe let his passion for comics - and more specifically for Hergé and Franquin - grow in such a way that it became part of his professional activity. As an independent seller since 1992, he takes part in festivals and comic book events every week in France (Strasbulles}, in Belgium (bourse des amis de Hergé, festivals in Arlon and Woluwe-Saint-Lambert) and in Luxembourg (Contern). He also managed several comic book pop-up shops and still owns a website to sell comics. Philippe was already a seller on Catawiki, but he didn’t think he would work as an Expert for the company. Today he curates the comics auctions for the Hergé/Tintin albums and French comics. He brings to Catawiki his deep knowledge of comics and collectors themselves as well as his years of experience in comic book collecting. He discovers the other side of comic book sales and has the chance to see albums he has never seen before. The teamwork with his fellow experts, to share advice and expertise, is also highly satisfying and makes the work even more interesting.
