Buddha - Alabaster - Myanmar - Late 20th century

Sculpture depicting Buddha seated in bhumisparsha mudra (gesture of calling the Earth to witness), attributed to the Burmese artistic tradition (Myanmar).

The statue is made of alabaster / natural limestone, hand-carved. The material exhibits a slight translucency typical of alabaster. Residual traces of original red pigment are visible on the fingers and in some folds of the drapery, consistent with devotional use.

The style of the face, with gentle features and a faint smile.
The base is hollow, as often found in the votive statues of the Southeast Asian area. Inside, there is a dark mark from workshop or inventory (visible in the photo).
