Description from the seller
3 selenium light meters from the 1950s and 1960s
Very rare model Philips Schall Berliner Bär
Is a rare light meter in an unusual design from the
Apparatus factory Philips (East Berlin/GDR). The company was registered at the time—as indicated by the type plate on the back—as 'PHILIPS SCHALL G. M. B. H. in Verwaltung' in 'Berlin Nord-NW 7' and was under state administration of the GDR as Dutch-owned property. The egg-shaped, heavy light meter is also known by the name 'Berliner Bär.' This name derives from the Berlin coat of arms, which is usually affixed as a sticker on the front. However, it is often only present on very well-preserved pieces. Aperture values: 1.4 to 45; exposure times: 1/1,000 second to 4 minutes; film sensitivities: 9 to 23 DIN. Manufactured around 1954/55.
Weight: 200 grams
Size: 8 x 6 x 3.5 cm

Excelsior
Light meter with selenium cell from Rudolf Kiesewetter, Excelsior-Werk, Leipzig, from 1938. The pointer scale directly shows light values from 1 to 13. The displayed value is compared with the large white gear ring (black scale) against the sensitivity value, and the exposure time-aperture combination can then be read from the red diaphragm scale. Blue arrows on both sides of the sensitivity scale extend the sensitivity range by one step each. Between the times of 1/10 second and 1/250 second, cine shutter speeds are indicated in blue. The scale values include times from 1/2000 second to 2 minutes, apertures from 1.4 to 22, sensitivities DIN 8 (6) to 19 (22) or Scheiner 18 (16) to 29 (31), light values 1-13, and cine speeds of 8-64 frames per second. The selenium cell generates an electrical voltage corresponding to the brightness, which is used to operate the pointer instrument.
Weight: 145 grams
Size: 7 x 5.6 x 2.8 cm
