Description from the seller

A very old Russian icon depicting the Mother of God as 'Joy of All Who Sorrow.' The Russian name for the icon, Joy of All Who Sorrow (also 'Joy of All Who Grieve'), is written in Cyrillic as: Всех скорбящих Радость.

Hand-painted on a wooden board
Measurements: 35.5 x 29 cm

The center features the Virgin Mary in full figure. She is surrounded by angels and several saints in various poses of reverence and prayer. The iconographic type depicts Mary as an intercessor and comforter for people in need and illness. The text in Church Slavonic script reads "Скорбящая" (Skorbaschtschaja), which means "the Sorrowing" or "the Suffering One."
The icon is a miraculous icon of Mary and is among the most venerated icons in the Russian Orthodox Church.

From my private collection, a special piece for collectors.

The antique icon is in good condition with signs of aging.
