This limited edition set (4000 produced worldwide) is the Corgi 97695 Abingdon Set comprising a Morris J Van and two MGAs.
The Morris J van is beautifully crafted in a dark green body with black wheel guards. The front of the vehicle features a black radiator grill with a simulated chrome grill surround. The front lights are represented by clear lenses set into headlights molded onto the wheel guards. The front indicators are depicted by white painted dots just below the lenses. Front and rear number plates [LBL 404] are created in silver and black. The glazing is clear all around, with the windscreen wipers represented by molded indents on the screen, highlighted in silver.
On the sides of the van, the BMC signage has been faithfully copied in gold, reading 'BMC - (logo) - BMC', with four lines of text that say 'Competitions Dept., ABINGDON on THAMES, BERKSHIRE, ENGLAND'. The sides are completed by painting the correct tyre pressures in white above each wheel on the black wheel guard, '22' at the front and '30' at the rear, and by representing the petrol cap, door handles, and semaphore trafficators with silver in the appropriate spots. Similarly, the rear of the vehicle features the door hinges highlighted in silver, and the gold 'BMC' bridges the two doors.
The interior of the Morris J van is made of black plastic, with a right-hand drive black plastic steering wheel mounted at an appropriate angle. The base plate is black painted metal and features 'Corgi' at the top center, 'Morris J Type' at the bottom center, and 'Made in China' just behind the rear axle. It also includes a minimalist representation of the gearbox, drive shaft, differential, and exhaust system. The base plate is secured by a front body locator lug and a single rear machined rivet.
The first of the MGAs is red with racing number 38. The model features chromed plastic bumpers, both front and rear, a chromed plastic grille, and headlights represented by two chromed 'buttons' with a cross-hatch pattern. Front and rear number plates [MBL 867] are created in silver and black. The front windscreen and side windows are highlighted in silver to depict the chromed surrounds, and the windscreen wipers are painted silver, molded as raised surfaces on the front windscreen. All glazing is made of clear plastic. The vehicle's roof is black, and the rear of the model displays an accurate MG badge and 'GB'.
The interior of this MGA is also made of black plastic, with a right-hand drive, black plastic steering wheel. The base plate is black painted metal, which reads 'Corgi' at the top center, 'MGA 1600 MK I' on two lines at the bottom center, and 'Made in China' behind the rear axle. It also features a very rudimentary outline of the chassis and driveshaft, and a separate chromed plastic exhaust system has been fitted. The base plate is secured by the usual two machined rivets, at the front and rear.
The second of the MGAs is white with the racing number 394. The model features chromed plastic bumpers, both front and rear, a chromed plastic grille, and headlights represented by two chromed 'buttons' with a cross hatch pattern. Front and rear number plates [MJB 191] are created in silver and black. The front windscreen and side windows are outlined in silver to depict the chromed surrounds, and the windscreen wipers are silver-painted, molded raised surfaces on the front windscreen. All glazing is clear plastic. The vehicle top is black, and the rear of the model bears an accurate MG 'badge' and 'GB'.
The interior of this MGA is made of red plastic, featuring a right-hand drive red plastic steering wheel. The base plate is black painted metal, with 'Corgi' inscribed at the top center, 'MGA 1600 MK I' on two lines at the bottom center, and 'Made in China' behind the rear axle. It also displays a very basic outline of the chassis and driveshaft, and a separate chromed plastic exhaust system has been installed. The base plate is secured by the usual two machined rivets, at the front and rear.
All wheels on the three vehicles are of a 'chromed hub' type — one-piece chromed plastic hubs with separate 'rubber' tires. The van has simulated hubcaps, and the two MGAs have simulated wire spoke wheels.
