Description from the seller

Masque Chokwe Pwo
Beautiful Chokwe Pwo mask with black patina. Rich decoration.
A classic piece of African art, the Chokwe Pwo mask (female) symbolizes the feminine ancestor, with a typical hairstyle made of threads, twisted cords, and cowries. The upper part of the forehead is dotted with small mineral beads embedded in a crusty patina that extends from each side of the face. The face is scarified according to Chokwe tradition.
Always carried by men, these masaues are used in ituelles dances dedicated to fertility. They bring prosperity and fertility. However, when controlled by sorcerers, they can take on malevolent characteristics and become Wanga.
