Description from the seller

Marapachi Bommai. These wooden dolls are typically presented in pairs as bride and groom and are part of the Golu, an exhibition of objects held during Navaratri. Marapachi Bommai, meaning wooden dolls, is a legacy passed down from one generation to another in the states of Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, and Andhra Pradesh.
They are given as part of the trousseau and serve to initiate the new bride into the annual Golu celebrations in her new home. This particular one, due to its size and the richness of its craftsmanship, is one of the largest and finest I know.
