Original handwritten 1776 marriage contract notarised before a royal notary in Ancien Régime France, with patrimonial clauses, four pages, 23 × 19 cm (unfolded 23 × 38 cm), in French, by Divers, 1st edition.
Description from the seller
It is unquestionably an original notarized act, handwritten, on several pages, dated 1776, from the Ancien Régime, concerning a marriage contract.
Marriage contract executed before a royal notary, with property clauses (dowry, contributions, consents, guarantees).
Year 1776 Reign of Louis XVI.
Legal framework of French customary law during the Ancien Régime.
Location: France (probably Burgundy / East, consistent with the names and the general context). People mentioned: According to the readable leaflet and the printed notice, Jean Gallimard, Nicole Blanchot, Gallimard and Blanchot families.
Deed executed with parental consent.
Typical of 18th-century marriage contracts, including dowry arrangements, movable and/or immovable contributions, community clauses, and inheritance guarantees.
Chiffon paper (linen/hemp), consistent thickness and texture of the 18th century, visible selvages.
French notarized cursive writing, expert hand, regular, swift, typical legal abbreviations, ornate capital letters at the beginning of acts.
Ferro-gallic ink, normal slight oxidation, very good overall readability.
Respected side margins, well-structured paragraphs, reference marks and signs, closing symbol at the end of the act.
Visible fiscal mark / stamp. Presence of a coat of arms seal on a sheet, handwritten initials, perfect continuity between the sheets. All the markers of an authentic notarial act from the Ancien Régime are present.
Very good for a 1776 document, normal marginal wear, small foxing and stains, rounded corners, no mutilation, fully legible text.
The printed notice visible in the photos clearly indicates 1776 – marriage contract at Bure-les-Templiers.
Gallimard – Damotte – Blanchot – Arviset.
It is very likely either the same act described or an equivalent act from the same notarial or family archive.
23cm x 19cm Folded, 23cm x 38cm Unfolded.
Very rare. The photos are an integral part of the description.
