Manuscript oriental ancien – double recto-verso leaf written in Arabic/Persian cursive script (naskh/nastaʿlīq), dating from the late 17th to early 18th century, about 28 × 18 cm (unfolded 28 × 36 cm) on oriental paper with black and red ink, in Bon condition and with 4 pages, attributed to Divers and titled Manuscrit oriental ancien – Feuillet double recto-verso.
Description from the seller
Ancient oriental manuscript – double leaf written on both sides in Arabic/Persian script – 18th century (circa)
Old double manuscript leaf, written on both recto and verso, in eastern cursive script of the naskh / nastaʿlīq late style, characteristic of Persian or Indo-Persian manuscripts from the modern period.
The text is copied in black ink, with numerous annotations, corrections, and reading marks in red ink, indicating a working or study manuscript, probably of a literary, legal, theological, or scholarly nature.
The layout is regular, with continuous running text, without framing, occupying most of the written surface. The writing is fluid, quick but controlled, typical of non-luxurious handwritten work intended for scholarly use.
The support is an ancient oriental paper, probably rag paper, featuring a very pronounced sprinkling of ink spots (fly-specking), a phenomenon commonly found on oriental papers from the 17th–18th centuries.
The sheet is folded in the center, suggesting the extraction from a notebook or manuscript. Double-page folio, with writing in Arabic, Persian, naskh, and cursive nastaʿlīq scripts.
Black and red ink.
Support for ancient oriental paper.
Estimated dating late 17th to early 18th century.
Probably a Persian or Arab scholar.
No decoration, utilitarian manuscript.
28cm x 18cm conforms to a large manuscript sheet. Unfolded, it measures 28cm x 36cm.
Authentic and unrestored condition, stains, ink spots, and age spots, traces of central fold, minor marginal dirtiness, no significant loss of text, well-readable and stable ink.
State consistent with the age of the document.
Original testimony of Islamic manuscript culture.
Interesting for collectors of oriental manuscripts, researchers, and calligraphy enthusiasts.
Dating 1750–1850
