The pre-euro test coins from the years 1998, 1999, and 2000 feature on the obverse side the profile of Queen Beatrix, which will later be used for the issuance of the euro coins.


The controversial and rare Dutch issue from 2002 are exactly miniature euros with a circulating mintage unknown; in fact, production was halted and the undistributed lots were withdrawn by the European Union because the euro standard cannot be altered. The coins are precisely scaled-down euros.
