Description from the seller
Antique marriage or bank chest in Gothic-Renaissance style – 1900s.
Description: from the 1900s in particularly good condition.
Antique marriage or dowry chest, designed as a storage chest, made from solid wood and richly decorated on the front with metal relief panels of copper alloy. This type of chest was traditionally used for storing linen and personal belongings and often formed part of the marriage dowry.
The chest is crafted in a Gothic-Renaissance tradition, visible in the panel layout, architectural structure, and figurative reliefs. Such chests were often made in the 18th to early 19th century, frequently deliberately in an older style, fitting within regional artisanal traditions.
